The law requires that any individual wishing to erect, alter or dismantle scaffolding must be able to prove their competency. The industry-wide accepted proof of competency for operatives is to hold a CISRS Scaffold card. To be eligible to apply for this card, candidates must successfully complete the following elements of training, all of which are available at NETA:
- CISRS Part 1 Course
- CISRS Part 2 Course
- Level 2 QCF National Diploma in Accessing Operations and Rigging (Construction) Scaffolding
- CISRS Basic Skills Test
To assess that the delegate can demonstrate the skills learnt during the CISRS Part 1 and Part 2 courses, i.e. safely erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding in line with the objectives approved by CISRS.
Delegates must have successfully completed a tube and fitting Part 1 and Part 2 CISRS scaffolding course and be able to be able to provide evidence of this training in the form of certificates Delegates must also have the minimum six months further scaffold experience.

On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a CISRS certificate. The certificate will be sent directly to the delegate or their sponsor company.
Please Note: We will apply for the relevant card on successful completion of the CISRS Skills Assessment using the delegates Heath, Safety and Environment Test or recognised exemption through the CWA system.
Delegates must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during the practical aspects of the course. Delegates will be required to provide:
- Hard Hat
- Safety Boots
- High visibility vest or overalls (optional)
- Safety Harness with 1.7m lanyard and rear anchor point
- 1x 7/16 swingover spanner
- 1x Belt and frogs
- 1x 6” spirit level
- 1x 5m Tape measure
Renewed Trainee cards are valid for 18 months. Card holders are expected to completed their CISRS Part 2 training, QCF VQ level 2 and CISRS Basic Skills Assessment within this time. No further CISRS Trainee cards will be issued after the 2nd Trainee card. To be eligible for renewal the card holder will need to attend the COTS course again as refresher training.
CISRS Basic Scaffolder cards are valid for 5 years and card holders will be required to complete the Health & Safety test or equivalent in order to renew their card.
PLEASE NOTE: that that Health, Safety & Environment tests are valid for 2 years from the pass date and therefore holding a valid CISRS card does not necessarily mean that your Health & Safety is still valid.
